Moody’s Makes Rare Interim Appointment: Andy Frepp Steps In as Interim President of Moody’s Analytics

It is not often that Moody’s Corporation resorts to an interim leadership solution. The company, known for its carefully managed and stable succession planning, has now appointed Andy Frepp, Chief Operating Officer of Moody’s Analytics, as Interim President of the division. The move follows the resignation of Stephen Tulenko, who is leaving Moody’s to pursue another opportunity.

The decision stands out precisely because interim appointments at Moody’s are rare. Traditionally, the company emphasizes continuity and long-term leadership transitions. Naming Frepp as Interim President underlines the urgency of ensuring stability at Moody’s Analytics while a search is underway for a permanent successor.

Rob Fauber, President and Chief Executive Officer of Moody’s, praised the appointment: “Andy’s deep knowledge of Moody’s Analytics’ customers, solutions, and people, coupled with his many years of leadership experience, makes him the ideal choice to guide the organization on an interim basis. I want to thank Steve for his many contributions to the company over the years. I am confident in Andy’s continued leadership as we begin the process to find the right long-term leader for Moody’s Analytics.”

Frepp himself emphasized continuity and momentum: “I’m grateful for the opportunity to step into this expanded role on an interim basis. I look forward to working alongside our talented team to execute on our strategy and capture the immense opportunity ahead for Moody’s Analytics.”

Having joined Moody’s through its 2011 acquisition of Barrie & Hibbert, where he had been Chief Executive Officer, Frepp has since held several senior leadership positions. In January 2024, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Moody’s Analytics.

From our perspective, this rare interim appointment highlights both the importance of Moody’s Analytics within the group and the need to avoid disruptions in a key growth segment. While Moody’s has a track record of long-term leadership stability, the temporary step ensures continuity at a critical moment and reflects the trust the company places in Frepp’s experience.
